THE BIBLIOBUS: APPRECIATING READING CULTURE IN FLORENCE

Bibliobus is the concept known as the library with wheels or mobile library. A bus designed as a library that moves around all districts of Florence.

Historically, Bibliobus service was conceived by BiblioteCaNova Isolottoin 1995 and born from the “stellar distribution” project of the book started in 1992 by the Isolotto Library with the collaboration of the Department of Adult Education of the University of Florence.

In general, the mobile libraries date backs to 1905, it was first started in Maryland, United States of America. Presently, Bibliobus is aimed at people of all ages and nationalities. The purpose is to introduce reading culture. Especially those who do not visit libraries or bookshops. That is why it follows itineraries that rotate every 15 days in 5 districts of the city.
